The Announcement of the Competition received large online support and sparkled some interesting thoughts and debates among law students in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Olga Gutovska, managing partner of the firm, presided over a committee which chose a winner.
First award was given to Mr Andrii Tyhyy from Ukraine for his response (see below),
Andrii Tyhyy: "To my mind, advocacy - is a social institute on which our community depends so much and a lawyer`s are that witout whom this institute couldn`t work. Their work consist in representing and protecting their clients in the court, and a good lawyer knows what exactly he should do get a positive result from every singlr trial. But what if don`t want to be a good lawyer? What if you`d like to be the best and what qualities do you need for it? I think, that first of all you need a desire to work in this sphere. Many successful and famous people always says that,if you would like to reach the highest stages in your career, you need enjoy what you are doing. Secondly,it`s hard work. Everyone knows that without hard work nothing is possible. Here we can use qoute of famous Greek philosopher - Horace:"Life gives nothing without work". And as I think the last quality - is loyalty. You really should dedicate yourself to this profession, cause it demand involving yourself in it 24/7. When you will combine all this features and start to to work under your career as a lawyer - you will be doomed to success!"
Audience award was given to Mr Oleksandr Savanskii (who is also a G&P alumnus, and is now working in judiciary).
Oleksandr Sazanskii: "I think that law is one of the most important professions. This is a person who helps in trouble. And if we talk about the main qualities of a lawyer, we can note the following:
1) People skills Law is not an abstract practice. Irrelevant of how well someone does academically, at the end of the day lawyers work with people, on behalf of people, and the decisions that are made affect people's lives. 2) Research skills Similarly, being able to research quickly and effectively is essential to understanding your clients, their needs, and to preparing legal strategies. 3) Judgement You must also be able to consider these judgements critically, so that you can anticipate potential areas of weakness in your argument that must be fortified against. 4) Good communication skills Lawyers must be orally articulate, have good written communication skills and also be good listeners. Communication and speaking skills can be developed during your studies by taking part in activities such general public speaking. Lawyers must also be able to write clearly, persuasively and concisely, as they must produce a variety of legal documents.
Therefore, a lawyer must have many qualities in order to be considered a professional.
I hope that I have these qualities and I am glad that I chose this profession"
